The GambaCast – The GambaCast Trailer
The GambaCast is a natural extension of Phillip Serna’s educational outreach program Viols in Our Schools, recipient of Early Music America’s Outreach Award for 2010. The GambaCast’s primary aim is to offer Early Music, specifically music for Viola da Gamba, to wider audiences through compelling performances by a variety of performers demonstrating the highest degree of scholarship and excellence in performance. To subscribe to the ‘Viols in Our Schools’ GambaCast, visit http://www.thegambacast.org/ and for more information on Viols in Our Schools & Doctor Phillip W. Serna, please visit http://www.violsinourschools.org/.
Music used here is Adrian Willaert’s chanson La rouse du moys de May performed by Russell Wagner, Ken Perlow & Phillip W. Serna of the Spirit of Gambo – a Chicago Consort of Viols from the May 18, 2008 concert with the Chicago Early Music Consort. Audio Recording by Free Chin, Choice Media Design, Chicago, IL. Photography is by Jonnie Maunder Photography.
Based in the Chicago area, Dr. Serna works to bring the early western string instrument family known as the viola da gamba into many area schools – demonstrating solo literature from the Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical periods for treble viol, tenor viol, bass viol & violone. Please help us make viols accessible to both young and old.
